Doctor delivers postcards from Europe in FREE concert!
Dr Susan Bray, whose first love in the medical world is surgery, will swap her scalpel for a microphone when she sings with the St John Ambulance Concert Band on Sunday July 8! This FREE concert in Mowbray Park is one of many that the St John Ambulance Concert Band stage for the Brisbane City Council throughout the year.
Susan has been singing since she was a little girl and studied the guitar as a teenager and voice later in her career. Throughout her life she has focussed on both music and medicine: playing and singing in restaurants whilst studying. Currently Susan spends her time equally between being a GP at Albany Hills and assisting in surgery. As a busy mother and doctor, Susan still finds time to volunteer in medical and musical projects and give her time to the St John Ambulance Concert Band. One of Susan’s songs in this upcoming concert is, ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from the famous musical ‘Les Miserables’. Susan says, “It is the most amazing sensation and an honour to sing with a full band playing behind you”.
St John Ambulance Concert Band’s Music Director, Major Ivan Cocking, has chosen to present audience members with a variety of musical works that will have them travelling throughout Europe. He says that ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ is perfect for this concert titled, ‘Postcards from Europe’, as “the song is about the French Revolution and was recently made popular again by Susan Boyle”.
Brisbane’s beautiful sunny winter’s days lend themselves perfectly to picnics in the park and the St John Ambulance Concert Band invites everyone to this family friendly music event.
