Musician & Liturgical Assistant co-ordinates Christmas concert at St Paul’s, Ipswich
Music and religion have always featured in Peter Taylor’s life. So, it is not surprising that he has been instrumental in bringing the St John Ambulance Concert Band to Ipswich to perform for the annual Christmas concert at St Paul’s Anglican Church this year.
Peter is currently a Liturgical Assistant at St Paul’s and an active musician in a couple of community bands. At 21, Peter decided he wanted to learn trumpet. He bought a trumpet and a series of “Melody School of Music” books and taught himself to play. He loved his music so much that by 29 he became a musician in the 2/14 Light Horse Regiment Band for 20 years as well as the Artillery Band and various commercial dance bands. A few years ago, Peter says, “I took a couple of years off, but it didn’t take me long to miss being part of a musical ensemble and that is when I joined St John Ambulance Concert Band.”. Peter also says, “St Paul’s has a long musical history and having St John Ambulance Concert Band perform at this year’s annual Christmas concert will be great!”
St John Ambulance Concert Band’s Music Director, Major Ivan Cocking, is also looking forward to this final concert for 2012 and says, “the band will perform a mixture of Christmas music and carols. Our aim is to let an overwhelming feeling of joy ring through our music”. REJOICE! will be a beautiful concert for people of all ages who enjoy being uplifted by the power of music: in the equally beautiful setting of St Paul’s Anglican Church. Major Ivan Cocking thanks both Peter Taylor and St Paul’s Music Director, Michelle Jaques, for inviting St John Ambulance Concert Band to perform this Christmas Concert on Sunday December 9 for the people of Ipswich.
